How to download and open your Kitgrid Studio kit

Thanks for buying a Kitgrid Studio kit. Each kit downloads as one ZIP file (bundles have one ZIP with a folder per kit). Inside you'll find:

• KitgridStudio-NN-name.xlsx for Microsoft Excel
• KitgridStudio-NN-name-GoogleSheets.xlsx for Google Sheets
• A how-to PDF with steps, the cells you edit, and how to open the kit in Google Sheets
• The license PDF and these download instructions

The how-to PDF is also a separate download on the listing, so you can read it before you unzip.

Unzip the file. On Windows, right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All. On other computers, double-click it. On a phone, open it in your Files app and tap it to unzip.

1. Download your files

Etsy

1. On a computer or a phone browser, sign in to Etsy.com.
2. Go to Your account, then Purchases.
3. Next to your order, select Download Files.
4. You can also open the email Etsy sends when your files are ready and select View your files on Etsy.

• The Etsy app can't download digital files. Use a browser on your phone or computer.
• Checked out as a guest? Use the download link in your receipt email.
• If the Download Files button is gray, your payment is still processing. Check back soon.
• There's generally no limit on how many times you can download.

Gumroad

1. Open your Gumroad receipt email (check spam if you don't see it).
2. Click View content and download each file. You may be asked for the email you used at checkout.
3. To keep all purchases in one place, create a free Gumroad account with the same email. Your kit will show up in your Library.

2. Open in Microsoft Excel

• Windows: double-click the .xlsx file. If a yellow bar says PROTECTED VIEW, click Enable Editing. Excel does this for every file from the internet.
• Excel on the web: go to office.com or OneDrive, upload the .xlsx, then open it.

Tested in Excel for the web and Google Sheets. Uses standard functions that work in Excel 2016 and newer. No macros and no add-ins, so you won't see a macro warning.

3. Open in Google Sheets

Go to drive.google.com, click New, then File upload, and pick the GoogleSheets.xlsx file. Then double-click it (or right-click, then Open with, then Google Sheets). To turn it into a full Google Sheet, choose File, then Save as Google Sheets.

4. Locked formula cells

In the Excel version, formula cells are locked so they don't get typed over by accident. The cells you fill in (blue text on light amber) are open. There is no password.

Want to change a formula or the layout? Go to Review, then Unprotect Sheet (desktop Excel). In Excel on the web, look for Review, then Protect Sheet or Manage Protection and switch protection off. You can turn it back on the same way.

The Google Sheets version has no locked cells, so take care not to type over black formula cells.

5. Phones and tablets

The kits are built for a computer. The Excel and Google Sheets phone apps can open them and let you type in numbers, but small screens make wide sheets hard to use, and some print and protection settings aren't available. Set things up on a computer, then use your phone for quick updates.

Buying and downloading

1. How do I get my files after I buy?

On Etsy, go to Your account, then Purchases and select Download Files. On Gumroad, open your receipt email and click View content. The download instructions PDF walks through both.

2. Can I download from the Etsy app?

No. The Etsy app can't download digital files. Sign in to Etsy in a phone or computer browser instead.

3. I lost my files. Can I download them again?

Yes. Etsy generally doesn't limit how many times you can download. On Gumroad, use your receipt email or your Gumroad Library.

4. Will you mail me anything?

No. This is a digital download. Nothing ships.

5. Why are there two .xlsx files?

One is set up for Microsoft Excel, with formula cells locked. The other is set up for Google Sheets, with no locked cells, because Google Sheets handles Excel protection differently. Use whichever matches your software.

Excel and Google Sheets

6. Does it work if I don't use Windows?

Use the Google Sheets version in any browser, or open the Excel file in Excel on the web. Apple Numbers can open the file, but we don't support it and some formulas or formatting may not carry over.

7. Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the GoogleSheets.xlsx file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets. To make it a full Google Sheet, choose File, then Save as Google Sheets.

8. What version of Excel do I need?

Tested in Excel for the web and Google Sheets. Uses standard functions that work in Excel 2016 and newer. There are no macros or add-ins.

9. Excel says PROTECTED VIEW. Is something wrong?

No. Excel shows that for every file downloaded from the internet. Click Enable Editing.

10. Can I use it on my phone or tablet?

You can open it and type in numbers with the Excel or Google Sheets app. Setup and printing are much easier on a computer.

11. Can my office manager and I both use it?

Yes, if you work for the same business. Share it inside your business through OneDrive, SharePoint or Google Drive. See the license for details.

Editing and customizing

12. Which cells do I fill in?

Cells with blue text on a light amber background. Everything else calculates on its own. Your how-to PDF lists the exact cells for your kit.

13. Why can't I type in some cells?

Those cells hold formulas and are locked so they don't get typed over by accident. There's no password. To change them, go to Review, then Unprotect Sheet.

14. How do I add more rows?

Most kits already have plenty of rows with formulas filled in. If you need more, unprotect the sheet, copy a full row that has formulas, and insert it above the TOTAL row. Then check that the total formulas include the new row.

15. Can I change the categories, rates and defaults?

Yes. Categories, rates, markups and waste factors live on the Settings sheet. Type over them. The defaults are examples only, so set them to match your suppliers, crew and market.

16. How do I clear out the sample data?

Type over it, or select the amber cells and press Delete. Only clear amber cells. Don't delete rows or columns that hold formulas.

17. Can I add my logo or company name?

Yes. Enter your company name on the Settings sheet. To add a logo, unprotect the sheet and use Insert, then Pictures.

18. I broke a formula. Now what?

Download a fresh copy and move your numbers over. Or message us and we'll help you fix it.

Using the results

19. Can I print it?

Yes. The main result sheets are set to print landscape, one page wide. Use File, then Print and check the preview first.

20. Can I send an estimate or invoice to my client?

Yes. Print it or save it as a PDF (File, then Save As or Print, then Save as PDF) and send that. What you create with the kit is yours.

21. Does it calculate sales tax?

Only if you enter a rate. You type in your own sales tax rate. We don't know the rules where you work, so check with your state or a tax professional.

22. Is this accounting software?

No. It's a spreadsheet for estimating and tracking. It doesn't do bookkeeping, payroll or tax filing, and it doesn't connect to QuickBooks or your bank. It isn't tax, legal or financial advice.

23. Are the default rates industry standards?

No. They're sample numbers so you can see how the math works. Replace them with your own.

Refunds, license and updates

24. Can I get a refund?

Because these are digital files, we don't take returns. If a file won't open or doesn't work as described, message us. We'll fix it or help you within 2 business days, and we look at refunds case by case when a file just won't work for you. See our refund policy for details.

25. Can I share the file with another business or a friend?

No. Your purchase covers you or your own business. Please point them to the shop instead.

26. Can I resell it or post it on a template site?

No. Reselling, sharing, uploading to template marketplaces or giving the files away isn't allowed, even if you change them.

27. Can I edit it for my own business?

Yes. Change it as much as you like for use inside your own business.

28. Do I get updates?

Bug fixes are free. When we fix or improve a kit, we upload the new version to the same listing. On Gumroad, open your Library or receipt link. On Etsy, try Download Files again from Your account, then Purchases. If you still see the old version, message us and we'll get the new one to you.

29. Do I need a Google or Microsoft account?

For Google Sheets, you need a free Google account. For Excel, you need Excel installed, or a free Microsoft account for Excel on the web.

30. How do I contact you?

Message us through the shop where you bought the kit: Etsy Messages, or reply to your Gumroad receipt email. We reply within 2 business days, usually sooner.
